AirNav Serves More Than 33,000 Flights During The 2023 Christmas Holiday

BOGOR - The Public Company for Aviation Navigation Services Operators (Perum LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia noted that it had served more than 33,000 flights during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 periods.

President Director of Polana B Pramesti said the peak of the homecoming flow during Christmas had occurred on December 23, 2023, with the number of flights we served as many as 4,740 flights.

"Alhamdullilah, we have passed the travel season at Christmas 2023. So that the total temporary flights from 19-26 December 2023 are 33,191 flights that we have collected from 51 posts at AirNav Indonesia Branch," said Polana at a press conference in Sentul, Bogor, Friday, December 29.

AirNav itself estimates that the number of flights during the Christmas and New Year 2024 holiday season will increase by 3.6 percent compared to last year. This projection was obtained based on data on requests for extra flights and flight slots from incoming airlines.

"This holiday season navigation service is quite smooth, apart from the enthusiasm of the community, it has started to rise using air transportation," he said.

Even so, Polana said that his party was aware of the large eruptions of several mountains in Indonesia recently.

One of them is Mount Marapi in West Sumatra.

"But on the other hand, we still have to be aware of the large number of mountain eruptions in Indonesia lately, such as the eruption of Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, Mount Semeru, and others," said Polana.

Therefore, Polana admitted that AirNav actively issued a volcano warning (ASHTAM) to maintain flight safety.

In addition, it also coordinates intensively with relevant stakeholders for the latest developments, such as the BMKG, airport operators and reports from pilots to determine the distribution of volcanic ash.

"We are vigilant and very intense in coordinating with BMKG on every report of mountain eruptions, his party also always records from the pilot's report regarding which area updates are affected by the volcanic eruption," he said.

Throughout 2023, continued Polana, AirNav has issued 2,262 ASHTAM related to eruptive mountain activity, and 7,287 Notices to Airmen or Pilots (NOTAM) related to changes in airport facilities and navigation services.

"Regarding NOTAM and ASHTAM, we must quickly convey it to the pilot, so that we can also direct which route is the best and safe to cross," he said.
