Metro Police Chief Says There Is No Criminal Element Behind The Incident Of Sultan Rif'at Alfatih Entangled In An Optic Firber Cable

JAKARTA - The Metro Jaya Police Chief said that he had not found any criminal elements behind the Sultan Rif'at Alfatih incident when PT Bali Towerindo's fiber optic cable was caught in the South Jakarta area. Starting from allegations of negligence to intentional.

"Thisultan after we assessed that there was no intentional element or the crime was not clear," Karyoto said during a year-end release at Polda Metro Jaya, Thursday, December 28.

According to him, from the temporary deepening of the cause of the stranding of fiber optic cables, it was not due to an error in installation by PT Bali Towerindo as the owner. But there was a collision on the support pole which caused the cable to slack off and strand.

"This person driving a motorcycle suddenly got into the cable belonging to the Bali tower. Even though the Bali tower did not make a mistake. There were previously those who hit the pole so that the cable dropped," he said.

"If I say there is no crime from the Bali tower. How to process it, the punishment is no mistakes, negligence or intentional," continued Karyoto.

Therefore, in this matter, Polda Metro Jaya will act in facilitating restorative justice efforts between the two parties. This means that all decisions will be left to the litigants without any intervention.

"In the restorative justice process, the police officers are only passive. Provide flexibility but do not provide direction. Only good directions, if this is indeed the case, please pay attention to each other from the side of the victim what the victim wants. Restorative is like that," said Karyoto.

As a reminder, the accident experienced by Sultan Rif'at began when his friends were riding a motorcycle and when they crossed Jalan Raya Antasari, South Jakarta, there was an incident. The incident took place around 22.00 WIB on January 5, 2023.

Initially there was a car queuing in front of the motorcycle driven by the Sultan. Without realizing it, there was a cable that stretched or relaxed, then the cable got stuck in the car.

Although caught in the car, the cable did not break and turned to the original direction right when the Sultan passed. As a result, the Sultan immediately fell due to a cable that hit his neck and suffered injuries.

The Sultan was then taken to Fatmawati Hospital, South Jakarta, to get first aid. The Sultan suffered bleeding in his throat and lungs were also submerged in water so he had to receive intensive care.

The incident also caused the victim's throat to break so that until now he had to use a tube to put food and drinks into his body. Only milk and liquid food that became his intake resulted in the Sultan's weight dropping drastically.
