Volvo's First Luxury Electric Sedan Reportedly Paving In 2025

JAKARTA - Volvo has reportedly started production of a prototype luxury electric sedan in China, named ES90. This news emerged based on images shared, in which the V551 team proudly posed alongside a large sign that reads 'Confidential Top Secret'.

Reporting from the ArenaEV page, Friday, December 22, the image shared by TechnicalsVithrld also shows the words 'Volvo Cars V551 First VP Car Celebration', hinting at the company's enthusiasm for this project.

Specifications for this sedan have also been revealed, equipped with a large capacity 111 kWh battery (usable for 107 kWh), which can cover a distance of 600 km. This car has a wheel axis distance of 3,100 mm and offers two driving configurations, namely all wheels with dual motors and rear wheels driving with a single motor.

Prototypical production (pre-production) is scheduled to begin in May 2024, with the hope of availability in the retail market by mid-2025. Thus, soon, this car will be enjoyed by consumers.

Looking at the middle of 2025, the projected range of 600 km may no longer be in the spotlight on the fast-growing market in technology. Will this car's distance to travel be increased? This is certainly worth waiting for.

However, it is undeniable that the ES90 model will later occupy a larger segment of medium-sized EV luxury sedans, competing with models such as Mercedes EQE, BMW i5, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air.

As is well known, Volvo has made a major investment in electrification, and it is hoped that this car will be the first fully developed model by the China-based company's R&D team.
