Makassar Kejari Arrest Defendant Escape Ahead Of The Verdict Session

Makassar District Attorney's Intelligence Team (Kejari) assisted by the Makassar Police Jatanras unit team arrested the defendant Bintang Mahesa Supriyadi who fled ahead of the trial for reading the verdict at the Makassar Class I A District Court, South Sulawesi.

"Based on the information obtained by the Intelligence Team, the defendant was observed to be on Jalan Poros Malino, Gowa Regency, the residence of his girlfriend Veby. Together with the Makassar Police Jatanras Team, he immediately made an arrest," said Makassar Kejari Chief Andi Sundari as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 20.

Kajari explained the chronology until the defendant fled from the Makassar District Court before attending the trial of the verdict related to charged cases that violated decency as regulated and threatened with crime in Article 45 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph (1) of Law 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).

Initially, the defendant waited for the trial, because the prosecutor was attending another trial because there were eight defendants. The defendant saw the opportunity to pretend to go to the toilet, then fled. After it was discovered that the defendant had fled, the team immediately made an effort to find his whereabouts by checking CCTV and sweeping around the Makassar District Court in collaboration with the police.

From the results of the CCTV inspection, it was observed that the defendant's whereabouts at around 12.50 WITA was in the parking lot in front of the court walking to the Karebosi Field Kanrerong Area, Jalan RA Kartini. At around 13.50 WITA, it was seen in the seller of meatballs behind the court, Jalan Amanagappa.

"The defendant had contacted his colleague on behalf of Simon to ask for help through a Whatsapp message that was not known to belong to whom. From that information, the team immediately raised information to the defendant's father and older brother where his position was," he explained.

Based on information obtained by the team, his whereabouts were monitored on Jalan Poros Malino, Gowa Regency, at the residence of his girlfriend, Veby, who had previously worked together to plan the escape.

From the defendant's statement after being arrested, while fleeing on foot to Makassar Port (Eks Sukarno Hatta), then riding a motorcycle rickshaw (Bentor) to his girlfriend's house, as well as paying a fee of Rp130 thousand.

"From the information that the defendant will eat at KFC, and the Padang restaurant, even the plan is to go to the cafe next to his girlfriend's house, but he is afraid that there will be prosecutors and police around the place, so he goes straight to his girlfriend's house. Thank God, the defendant has been taken to his girlfriend's house earlier. Furthermore, the defendant will continue the trial process," said Andi Sundari explaining.

When asked if there was an escort from the defendant before attending the trial, said Kajari, there were two officers from the police and three people from the prosecutor's office. Regarding the incident, whether there was negligence in supervision until the defendant used to run away, Sundari stated that of course there was negligence.

"The indication is that there is a plan, but this is being deepened again. Every trial is always guarded by the police and the prosecutor's office. Of course, every incident must be evaluated so that a similar incident does not happen again, this is a lesson for us so that it does not happen again," he asserted.

The defendant was previously charged by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) for two years in prison and a fine of Rp. 10 million, subsidiary to three months in prison. Regarding whether the verdict will be added for his actions, said Sundari, the panel of judges will decide later, because the prosecutor cannot add because the defendant has been prosecuted.

The defendant admitted that he chose to run away because he saw the opportunity and took advantage of the officer's negligence. He asked permission from the KKN student who was with him in court to go to the toilet, because he felt the situation was safe, immediately fled to Makassar Port not far from the court on foot

"When I arrived at the port, I saw a collection of bentors, I said I could take them to Malino Street at my girlfriend's house, then they were taken there. I asked my parents, they said they couldn't do that, this is not a school," said the defendant.
