South Sulawesi Police Deploy 3,439 Joint Personnel To Secure Christmas-New Year
MAKASSAR - The Regional Police (Polda) of South Sulawesi Province (Sulsel) deployed 3,439 joint personnel to secure Christmas celebrations in 2023 and New Year's Eve 2024 in a number of areas in South Sulawesi.
"This security is carried out so that people can be more comfortable in worshiping in churches and Christmas holidays until the turn of the year," said Head of Public Relations of the South Sulawesi Police, Kombes I Komang Suartana in Makassar, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 19.
There were 1,806 special alerted officers at the South Sulawesi Regional Police, with details of the 421 Polda task force personnel, and 1,385 Polres personnel. The rest from the relevant agencies were 1,687 joint personnel.
For the implementation of security, said Komang, starting from places of worship as many as 828 churches, 129 tourist attractions as well as crowded points and vital facilities such as airports, ports, terminals, hotels, shopping centers including roads prone to traffic jams.

"The security is to ensure that the implementation of worship and New Year's holidays runs safely and smoothly. Security posts and service posts as well as integrated posts are also formed," he said. In securing Christmas and New Year's this time, his party also mapped disturbances or potential threats that could occur such as terrorism, motor vehicle theft, illegal racing, group fights, drug trafficking, to the misuse of firecrackers
"The natural disaster problem is also mapping because it has entered the rainy season where the potential for flooding to landslides occurs," he said.
The plan is for an assembly to hold troops on Thursday, December 21, 2023 for Christmas and New Year's security operations, namely the 2023 Candle Operation to be held for 12 days, from 22 December 2023 to 2 January 2024.
"For the deployment of troops in the Makassar City area, the South Sulawesi Regional Police, Polrestabes and the Makassar Port Police are held at Karebosi Field," said Komang.
