Here Are The Finalists Of Forwot Cars And Motorcycles Of The Year 2023

The Indonesian Automotive Journalists Forum (FORWOT) has again held the Cars and Motorcycles of the Year 2023 award, which is currently entering the final round.

After three years of not being held, this year's activities have various categories that follow trends in the automotive industry, such as Hybrid Electric Vehicle, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, and BEV.

For the motorcycle category, there are two subcategories, namely gasoline engines and electric-tech motors. A total of 59 models have been launched from January 2022 to October 2023, including 15 electric motorcycle models.

"The presence of these new categories reflects the trend of electrification vehicles in Indonesia. Through this award, we want to appreciate producers who have presented electrification technology, which are expected to help achieve the target of reducing emissions and encourage the growth of the domestic automotive industry," said the General Chairperson of FORWOT, Indra Prabowo, in his official statement.

As in previous years, FORWOT members collected cars and motorbikes launched between January 2022 to October 2023.

During that period, as many as 88 vehicle models have been netted to be assessed as Forwot Cars of The Year 2023 (FCY 2023). Of these, it consists of 55 models of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), 16 Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) cars, and 17 models of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). For the Forwot Motorcycles of The Year 2023 (FMY 2023) category, the jury collected 59 models launched in the same period, including 15 electric motorcycle models.

"In recent years, we have seen an electrification trend with the large launch of electric vehicle cars. The market response to the presence of environmentally friendly vehicles has been very positive, as evidenced by increased sales in recent years. On the other hand, we also see the growth of SUV trends in various sizes, ranging from small, compact, medium, to large," said the Head of the ForWOT Wheeling Division and the Chairperson of the FCY 2023 Jury, Mufrd.

The government is pushing for the use of electrified vehicles as one of the steps to achieve the carbon neutrality target by 2060. Recently, President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Regulation No. 79/2023 regarding the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of electric cars to encourage the development of the battery-based electric vehicle industry in Indonesia.

"The relatively low operational cost is one of the reasons people have started switching to using electric motorcycles. Demand continues to increase, as can be seen from the number of brands and models available in the market," said the Head of the Two-WOT Wheeling Division and the Chairperson of the 2023 FMY Jury, Ainto Harry Budiawan.
