Conflict Of 3 Big Tribes In Nabire Ends, Acting Governor Values Beautiful Christmas 2023 Gift

CENTRAL PAPUA - At least three major tribes in Nabire, Central Papua were hit by conflict. The three are the Mee Tribe, Dani Tribe and the Wate Tribe.

The security forces and the Central Papua Provincial Government mediated the dispute between the three tribes which was initially triggered by the seizure of land in Topo, Uwapa District, Nabire Regency. The fight has occurred since June 5, 2023.

"The peace process was carried out on Thursday (December 14), so the three of them have now accepted each other and started living in peace and harmony which after seven months of conflict over land struggles occurred," said Acting Governor of Central Papua Ribka Haluk in a press release, Monday, December 18, confiscated by Antara.

Ribka said the peace of the three tribes was a beautiful Christmas 2023 gift for the local community.

"I hope that a prolonged conflict like this should not happen again, if there is a problem, it will be resolved properly," he said.

He explained that the mediation process was contained in the peace agreement news consisting of five points.

First, agreeing on the customary rights between the Wate Tribe and the Mee Tribe is Bukit Rindu.

Then the second point, agreed to release a customary land covering an area of 1,000 x 3,000 m square in Uwapa District, Nabire Regency belongs to Ishak Talenggen. Then the third point, agreed that the area of rebuttal of KM 64, KM 74, KM 80 and KM 86 belonged to the Suku Mee and anyone who wants to do activities to find wood or gold must get approval from the tribe.

Furthermore, the fourth point agreed to receive a peace money of IDR 2.3 billion which was intended for a peace event in accordance with local wisdom.

"The fifth point, agreed that with the signing of this peace agreement, the issue of the Mee, Dani and Wate Tribes was resolved," he said.
