Mitsubishi Motors Starts Production Of New Minicab EV Commercial Electric Vehicles In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (Mitsubishi Motors) today announced that it has started production of the New Minicab EV, or in the country called the L100 EV of a kei-car1 class commercial electric vehicle at a factory located in Bekasi Regency.

Later, this model will begin to be sold in Indonesia in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2023.

"In 2017, MMKI started production of Xpander which is now not only sold domestically in Indonesia, but is also exported to support the development of the Indonesian automotive industry," said Takao Kato, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, in an official statement received, Friday, December 15.

He further said that with the start of the first production of electric vehicles abroad, he hoped to meet market demand.

"With the start of our first production of electric vehicles abroad, we hope to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles in the ASEAN region and at the same time contribute to environmental initiatives in this country," he added.

As is known, the Minicab EV is a vehicle with a monobox design equipped with an EV system that has been proven in the world's first mass production electric vehicle, i-MiEV.

Additionally, measures such as placing a driving battery under the middle of the floor ensure that EV components can be installed without compromising the large cargo space of vehicles, while low centers of gravity provide extraordinary steering stability and fun driving.

Responding to intensive efforts in various fields aimed at achieving carbon-neutral communities, as well as increasing demand for electric vehicles related to logistics and commercial for sustainable business activities, Mitsubishi Motors will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in the last stage of commercial use with Minicab EVs.

Atsushi Kurita, President Director of PT. Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) revealed that the determination of Indonesia as the first country to conduct local production of the MiEV Minicab or L100 EV is a significant step for Mitsubishi Motors.

"As distributors in Indonesia, we are proud to be part of this environmental initiative. With a previous study in Indonesia regarding the efficiency of using BEV in the light commercial vehicle segment, we are ready to start marketing this product in Indonesia early next year," concluded Atsushi Kurita.
