The Idea Of Moving Corruptor Prisoners To Nusakambangan, KPK: The Deterrent Effect Is Not Just Separating

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that punishment for corruptors was not enough by imprisoning them. They should also be impoverished so that the deterrent effect is more pronounced.

This was conveyed by the Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri in response to the presidential candidate debate held by the General Elections Commission (KPU) on Tuesday night, December 12 yesterday. He said that corporate punishment was like moving corrupt convicts to Nusakambangan Prison was not enough.

"The deterrent effect is not just imprisoning," Ali told reporters quoted on Friday, December 15.

"Even though there is an idea, for example, special imprisonment in Nusakambangan, but combining imprisonment with impoverishing corruptors is much more effective in our opinion," he continued.

Ali then mentioned the Asset Confiscation Bill which should be the attention of the presidential candidates. He said, this method provides a more deterrent effect because correctional institutions also have their own problems.

"Because we read the material from the Criminal Proceeds Asset Confiscation Law for the KPK, of course, it is very effective to impoverish corruptors," he said.

As previously reported, three presidential candidates in the inaugural debate both agreed to eradicate corruption. Presidential candidate number one, Anies Baswedan emphasized the importance of providing a deterrent effect by corruptors.

He also said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law would also be strengthened. Then give awards to those who report the practice of racism. "So when we report, we have community participation and it is allowed by law," Anies said in the debate.

Presidential Candidate number two, Prabowo Subianto is determined to eradicate corruption to its roots with his vice presidential candidate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka. This was done for the sake of the Indonesian people.

"We will uphold what needs to be emphasized and we are determined to eradicate corruption to its roots," he said.

While the presidential candidate number three, Ganjar Pranowo said eradicating corruption was indeed an issue that would be resolved. He even plans to make rules so that corruptors are detained in Nusakambangan.

It did not stop there, the provision of other deterrent effects by immediately encouraging the Asset Confiscation Bill to be knocked and ratified to be implemented.

"So if I start from here what is done is the impoverishment, confiscation of assets. So immediately we will fix the Asset Confiscation Law and corrupt officials that to Nusakambangan so that they can have a deterrent effect, this is not a joke," said the former Governor of Central Java.

"We must show by an example from a leader and a leader, we must not hesitate," he concluded.
