Debate Evaluation, KPU Asks The Paslon Team To Obey The Rules And Not Provocative

JAKARTA - KPU member August Mellaz said that one of the points of evaluation of the inaugural debate for the 2024 presidential election was the compliance of the winning team of presidential and vice presidential candidates towards the rules and regulations of the debate that had been regulated in the KPU technical guidelines and agreed with the KPU and the winning team.

August also asked the candidate pair team (paslon) who are at the next debate location to understand and comply with the debate rules. Including, he said, not taking provocative actions and the like.

"It's the duty of the candidate pair to ensure that the candidate pair gets complete information, the support team also gets complete information about all kinds of rules," August said Thursday, December 14.

August realized that the presidential election debate format this time was more attractive and interactive because each presidential candidate asked each other questions and denied it. However, he hopes that the candidate pairs team will continue to comply with the existing rules.

"All the candidate pairs provided notes, the KPU also provided notes. We were also given notes. So everyone received it in the context of improvement. The note was hoped that in the future it would not be repeated," he said.

Regarding sanctions, said August, following the rules that were made and mutually agreed upon. He gave an example, there are parties whose actions or words greatly interfere with the course of the debate, so they can be removed from the debate arena.

"Later, if, for example, governance at the time of the debate, it could be that if for example it is very disturbing, there will be security matters, later we will agree that he will be expelled from (the debate). That is an alternative, but it has not yet reached there," concluded August.

It is known that the inaugural debate that was held on Tuesday night was a debate between the presidential candidates, namely Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo with the theme of debate related to government, law, human rights (HAM), eradication of corruption, strengthening democracy, improving public services, and harmony of citizens.
