Erik Ten Hag Admits Manchester United Is Inconsistent

JAKARTA - Manchester United's performance this season has always been in the spotlight, not only in the Premier League, but also traveling in European tournaments.

The Red Devils have just been eliminated from the 2023/2024 Champions League after being defeated by Bayern Munich 0-1 in the last Group A match at Old Trafford.

Man United ended up at the bottom of the standings with four points from one win, one draw, and four defeats.

Performances in the 2023/2024 Premier League are also far from impressive. We are still sixth with 27 points.

Erik ten Hag, Manchester United coach, assessed that his team was inconsistent. Reflecting on the last 10 matches in all competitions, Harry Maguire and colleagues could never walk long on a positive track.

The Red Devils lost to Newcastle United 0-3 at Old Trafford in the League Cup early last month. They can rise in the league by beating Fulham 1-0 when they travel.

However, then Man United lost again to Copenhagen 3-4 in the Champions League.

There was a positive trend when they won two straight league wins. Win against Luton Town 1-0 and beat Everton 3-0.

It's just that, after that they fell again. Man United only won one win, one draw, and three defeats in the next five matches. The only victory was won against Chelsea (2-1).

"I think, as a squad, we weren't good enough to be consistent and we had to work as a squad to increase it," Ten Hag said at ESPN.

"As a group, we have to develop, we have to be tougher, get ready for the game, from the start."

Meanwhile, the match against Bournemouth at Old Trafford was the culmination of Ten Hag's frustration. He had high hopes of continuing the victory in the Premier League after beating Chelsea the previous week.

The true victory could motivate the team before facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, in fact they lost by a landslide. The defeat was the sixth at home.

"Of course I'm annoyed, disappointed, for sure. I was expecting something different. I hope before the game you can build up (better) performance from the result against Chelsea. So, this is very disappointing."

"After the score was 0-2, we were overwhelmed and we had to do everything better."

"The way we started was not good, bad. The first five minutes of the game, especially against the team with a very good transition, you just gave them the perfect situation. That shouldn't have happened."

"We did everything to turn things around. We did a lot of attacks, we didn't get to the turning point even though we had chances."

"I have to prepare the team for them to be ready for the game. From my point of view, I am very disappointed with the way we started and we have to get better."

"We are completely inconsistent. We have the ability, but we have to do it (consistency) in every game," said Ten Hag.

In total, Man United have lost 12 times to their 24 games this season in all competitions.

It seems that revival will still be difficult to materialize. You see, Manchester United had to visit Anfield, Liverpool headquarters, in the Premier League on weekends.
