DPR Is Considered Able To Bring Global Issues At The International Forum

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives has participated in international forums for important issues around downstreaming, climate change, gender to immigrants. With this work, the Indonesian House of Representatives is considered to have contributed ideas in solving global problems.

For example, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, brought the aspirations of the Indonesian people in the 9th Mikta Speakers Consultation. In the forum, the DPR RI brought discussions about peace efforts in the middle east to the issue of emission suppression. Puan also brought the issue of migrant workers at the 42nd ASEAN Summit

Furthermore, there was also the Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Sukamta who brought the issue of peace in Palestine when attending the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) session. Some of the presence of the Indonesian House of Representatives in this international forum has marked the progress of the DPR.

Parliament observer Prida Ariani appreciates the work of the DPR. The DPR is considered to have a significant role when it is a participant or host of an international parliamentary forum.

"If I look at their role as participants or hosts for a meeting of world lawmakers, I see an increase. So increase from year to year," said Prida, Wednesday, December 13.

He also revealed that the characters of each country are different. In this case, he said that the DPR RI could be a role model for a country that is at the same level or has a similar character.

"Each country has its own characteristics. So between countries it has its own uniqueness. So regarding the Indonesian parliament as a developing country, we may be an example of a country that has the same characteristics or level as us or below us," he said.

He also appreciated the DPR's efforts to fix the democratic system in Indonesia. The DPR RI is considered to have tried to continue learning.

"We want to learn better about how people are involved in a government. Or try to find the best form of democracy. In my opinion, the form of democracy of each country cannot be the same. We have culture, tradition, trust. So it cannot be equated. But we always learn better. That's what I appreciate," he explained.

He also praised the role of the DPR in bringing international issues. He said the DPR had played an active role in international forums.

"If I see how our parliament is involved in the World of Speakers Parliamentary Conference 2021, I will see about the issues that occur in each country, we are involved with these issues," he said.

The role of the DPR in the gender issue raised in international forums also reaps appreciation. One of them is related to the abolition of gender-based violence. The academic observer of the female issue, Ridha Sefina, in this case praised the TPKS Law which has been passed by the DPR.

"I thank the DPR regarding the legal product of the TPKS Law Number 12 of 2022, which was finally launched. This is very grateful for me," he said.

He hopes that the next DPR's performance will not be just a gimmick. The DPR is expected to be able to complete unfinished homework.

"Not only gimmicks, we hope. We hope they finish their work, make legal products according to their tenure," he said.

The reason is, he sees the phenomenon of sexual violence happening everywhere. Even in a very unexpected place.

"There are now many cases of sexual harassment and violence. It even occurs in religious-based schools or in places where cases should not occur, but occur," he said.

The same thing was also conveyed by the observer of the issue of women's rights, Anastasia Santi Delliana. Santi even assessed that the DPR has been able to bring women's rights in international forums.

"So if the role of the DPR in the international forum is related to women, because the products already exist, so it's quite happy. That in the end the rights related to women can be fulfilled by members of the DPR who fight for women's rights internationally. From the matter of marriage to family," said Santi.

According to him, the women-related legislative products that have been made by the DPR are quite good. "The legal products produced by the DPR, related to women, are quite good," he said.

He also appreciated the birth of the TPKS Law. According to him, this law has fully covered the handling of cases of sexual violence.

"For example, yesterday's protection for those affected by sexual violence. It also represents what is needed. Until finally the protection is not only about legal action, but also against the victims themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, the DPR's performance has drawn appreciation. One of them is a social observer, Dr Salman M.S. Salman, assessed that the DPR's performance in producing products of the law needs to be appreciated. Although there are still crucial bills that have not been passed.

"The IKN Bill and then the ASN tenant, that's what I think is crucial, which must be resolved. Because if it is not resolved, it will be a problem," he said.

He did see that in terms of quantity, the product of legislation has indeed decreased. However, from the few there is a quality law. The DPR is considered to be more focused on the quality of the law.

"The quantity is indeed reduced. For example, from the priority prolegnas there are around 20, but only a few have realized. But in this perspective, I see that maybe what Baleg DPR has explained, maybe they are more focused on the quality of the law itself," he said.
