Former Deputy Speaker Of The House Of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin, Is Conditional Free

JAKARTA. - Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin, received parole on August 18. The conditional release was after receiving a remission of 7 months.

"The person concerned was released after receiving a Conditional Release Decree (PB) number PAS-1436.PK.05.09 of 2023 in response August 17, 2023," said the Coordinator of Legal and Protocol at the Directorate General of PAS Kemenkumham, Deddy Eduar Eka Saputra, in a statement to reporters, Tuesday, December 12.

Azis Syamsuddin received remission for his good behavior during his prison term at the Class I prison in Tangerang.

Even though he is no longer an inmate, Azis Syamsuddin still has to undergo mandatory reporting.

"During the PB, the person concerned is obliged to report to the Tangerang Class I Correctional Center," said Deddy.

Azis Syamsuddin was found guilty of giving bribes to former KPK investigators AKP Robin and Maskur Husain around Rp 3.6 billion. The bribe aims to stop the investigation into the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) of the Central Lampung Regency APBN-P for Fiscal Year 2017.

He was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of IDR 250 million, subsidiary to 4 months in prison. In addition, the panel of judges also revoked Azis Syamsuddin's political rights for 4 years.

"The trial, stated that the defendant M Azis Syamsuddin had been legally and convincingly proven guilty of continuing the criminal act of corruption," said presiding judge Muhammad Damis at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Jalan Bungur Besar Raya, Central Jakarta, February 2022.

In his consideration, the judge said Azis Syamsuddin and Aliza Gunado were suspected of being involved in the Central Lampung DAK corruption case. Therefore, Azis asked a police officer named Agus Supriadi to be introduced to KPK investigators.
