A Number Of Apple Accessories May Switch To USB-C Next Year

JAKARTA One by one the Apple devices start to stop using the Lighting cable and switch to USB-C. This change in cable starts with the iPhone 15 series, followed by Pencil and AirPods.

Recently, Apple is rumored to be replacing all Lightning cables in their Mac accessories. Quoting from Techradar, a series of accessories that will use USB-C cables are Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad.

From the rumors circulating, all of Apple's newest accessories with USB-C cables will be launched in the spring of next year. Chances are, this launch will take place between March, April, or May.

If this change does happen, Apple may want to stop using the Lightning cable as a whole. However, they will continue to produce Lightning cables because many people are still using old devices with these cables.

Apple first replaced their cables because of rules from the European Union (EU). In 2019, the EU enacted a law regulating electronic devices with radio waves such as smartphones.

Under these rules, all technology companies are required to use USB-C across devices, including smartphones. This must be obeyed in order to reduce electronic waste in the European region.

Initially, Apple didn't want to change the Lightning cable they developed. However, considering that this law must be adhered to so that iPhone devices can enter Europe, Apple has finally changed the cable on the iPhone 15 series.

Actually, there are other advantages of using USB-C cables. Apart from being a relatively cheaper price, this cable has a higher capability than Lightning. USB-C has reached 10Gbps, while Lightning is only 480Mbps.
