European Car Of The Year Finalist To Debut In Malaysia Early In 2024, Take A Peek At The Specifications

JAKARTA - The automotive giant from China continues to spread its wings in various countries. After a year of this brand coming to Malaysia, it is reported that BYD Seal will debut in the first quarter of 2024.

Quoted from the Paultan page, Monday, December 11, this Tesla Model 3 to BMW i4 challenger car was exhibited at the BYD 1st Anniversary celebration, Beyond Dreams Celebration at the Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena this weekend.

So what are the specifications? As is known, Seal is a four-door couple-style sedan with a tilted roof line and a short back deck. The dimensions are 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,460 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, and this car is built on the 3.0 e-platform which also supports Atto 3 and Dolphin EVs.

It is hoped that the car, which is also the finalist for the European Car of the Year 2024, will be present in three variants that are similar to the Singapore, Thailand and Australia markets, where Seal has already been sold.

Meanwhile, the basic variant of this car uses a Dynamic Standard Range rear wheel drive, which is equipped with a single electric motor that produces 201 hp and torque 310 Nm, which makes it capable of accelerating 100 km/h from a stationary position in 7.5 seconds. As for the battery pinned, the Blade lithium-iron phospate (LFP) 61.4 kWh offers a journey of up to 460 km with a single charge.

In addition, the central variant is Premium Extended Range, which also has a single-motor rear wheel driving configuration, but comes with a higher output and battery capacity. In more detail, electric motors produce 308 hp and 360 Nm torque, with an LFP battery with a higher capacity of 82.5 kWh which provides a car range of up to 570 km.

The highest variant is Performance AWD. In accordance with specifications, this variant has a dual motorcycle powertrain with a front motorbike of 215 hp which is added to the back unit of 308 hp, resulting in a total output of 523 hp and a torque of 670 Nm. In addition, it comes with the same 82.5 kWh battery as seen in Premium ER, although increased performance means a lower effective range, with a distance of up to 520 km with a single charge.

In terms of charging, Seal in its basic form Dynamics supports AC charging Type 2 to 7 kW, with a time of 8.6 hours to charge the battery from 0-100 percent, and dc charging (CCS2) to 110 kW. Premium ER and Performance AWD are also equipped with 7 kw AC Type 2 charging time, with a charging time of 0-100 percent within 15.2 hours, but DC charging capability at both is increased by up to 150 kW, with 37 minutes charging time to reach the full battery.

The final price for BYD Seal has not been mentioned, but it is estimated that it will start from around 180,000 ringgit or around Rp600 million. Meanwhile, Premium ER is estimated to be priced at 200,000 ringgit or Rp667 million and the highest is at 220,000 ringgit or Rp734 million.
