Anies Affirms Legal Certainty Key To Restore Investor Confidence
Presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan said legal certainty is the main key to restoring investor confidence in investing in Indonesia.
"We need investment, both FDI (foreigndirection), debt securities, stocks, bonds and others if we want to pursue economic growth above 5.5-6.5 percent. But we are dealing with the fact that foreign investors understand our condition, so we can't lie," said Anies at the Apindo Candidate 2024 Dialogue event in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA Monday, December 11.
Anies said that the problem of policy inconsistency, complicated bureaucracy, rigidity and inconsistency of central and regional policies, corruption practices that still occur until supporting infrastructure are still problems of Indonesian investment attraction.
"So I think we have to start by admitting that we have a problem, then we make corrections. Don't cover it up because what we want to build with investors is not an increase in investment, but a thrust level. Indonesia must return the thrust level to the world, not just investment," he said.

Anies revealed a number of strategies to be able to improve the investment climate in Indonesia, including by conducting benchmarking with countries with an equivalent economic scale, creating a climate of legal certainty, to being serious about eradicating corruption.
He also emphasized that the principle of providing legal certainty must come from the highest leader. However, he stressed, legal certainty cannot be just a commitment at the central level, but there must also be national guidelines to be applied at the lower level.
"The legal certainty starts from the top. The commitment to provide legal certainty will be transmitted downwards. If there is no message of legal certainty from above, it will be very difficult to implement," he said.
