KHE Targets Kayan Rampung Hydropower Development In 2035

TANJUNG SELONG - PT Kayan Hydro Energy (KHE) has set a target for the construction of the Kayan Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) to be completed in full by 2035.

The largest total hydropower capacity in Southeast Asia reaches 9,000 megawatts (MG).

KHE Khaeroni's Director of Operations explained that the Kayan hydropower plant will have five dams.

The first dam is currently in the process of being built and will gradually continue until the five dams are completed.

"Approximately 1 year difference (started the next work) before dam one was completed. There is a dam of approximately 4-5 years, so if it can be calculated by 2035 it has reached 5 dams," he said in Tanjung Selor, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan, Sunday, December 10.

Roni, Khaeroni's nickname, explained, with a total capacity of 9,000 MW, this Kayan hydropower plant can flow green electricity needs for one island of Kalimantan. However, it is specifically for the industrial sector.

"For a total of 9,000 MW. When we talk about overseeing it, we can support it throughout Kalimantan. But, we will come back again. When it comes to industry, most of it is absorbed into the industry. (priority for the industrial sector)," he said.

Construction Of Dam 1 Construction Starting Next Year

Roni explained that the construction of the first dam for the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant will begin next year. Currently, the construction has entered the stage of the construction of the diversion channel or diversion channel which is carried out through blasting or detonating.

"Now we are concentrating on the diversion channel so that at least next year it will be completed and we can divert the river to carry out the Kayan dam construction," he said.

For your information, the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant will utilize areas along the Kayan River, in Peso District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan.

Consisting of five dams with 5 hingva 6 units of generating turbines in each dam. This hydropower plant will produce clean electricity with a total of 9,000 Megawatts.

The investment value of this project reached 17.8 billion US dollars. For the construction of this project, PT KHE has also collaborated with an energy company from Japan Sumitomo Corporation.
