Six Myanmar Celebrities Get Arrested For Supporting The Anti-Coup Protest

JAKARTA - The Myanmar military has again made arrests against a number of parties outside of politicians. This time they arrested Myanmar celebrities on Wednesday local time.

The celebrities arrested are the famous Myanmar film actors Pyay Ti oo and Lu Min, film directors Ko Pauk, Wyne and Na Gyi, and rapper Anaga. They were charged for inciting the protests act.

According to the Myanmar military, the six of them went down to the street to join the protest against the coup as well as took advantage of their fame to persuade the citizens to do the same thing, and persuade the Myanmar state civil to support the civil disobedience act (CDM).

As reported by The Irrawaddy, the six of them were charged under Article 505 (b) of the Criminal Code in the municipality of their respective places of residence. If found guilty, they will be sentenced to 2 years in prison. Myanmar's military has also threatened to impose legal action against anyone who protects them.

On Saturday last week, the military announced arrest warrants for seven people, including veteran student leaders U Min Ko Naing and U Kyaw Min Yu (aka U Jimmy). The accusation was the same, influencing the public to carry out demonstrations against the military coup.

It is known that since the early morning of the coup on February 1, the military has detained more than 450 people. Some of them have been released. Since February 6, hundreds of thousands of Burmese went down to the streets to protest against the coup, criticize the regime, and urge the military for the release of detained civilian leaders, including State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint.
