KPK Officially Announces Former Deputy Minister Of Law And Human Rights Eddy Hiariej As A Suspect

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced the former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej as suspects in alleged bribery and gratuities.

The announcement was made by KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata at a press conference on the detention of former President Director of PT Citra Lampia Mandiri, Helmut Hermawan. This entrepreneur is suspected of giving bribes and gratuities to Eddy.

"Today we announce the suspects suspected of committing a criminal act of corruption. The first is this EOSH of the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights," said Alexander at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 7.

Apart from Eddy, the KPK also announced Helmut along with two other suspects. They are Yogi Arie Rukmana who is Eddy's personal assistant and lawyer named Yosi Andika Mulyadi.

As previously reported, Edward Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej was supposed to be questioned on Thursday, December 7. However, he did not come because he was sick.

"So there is no intention that we (want, ed). So don't get the wrong perception. We are cooperative," said Eddy's attorney, Ricky Sitohang, to reporters when contacted, Thursday, December 7.

Ricky said his client was about to go to the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta. However, he suddenly turned around and had to take medicine.

"I've seen a lot of drugs," he said.

Meanwhile, the KPK examined Eddy Hiariej on Monday, December 4 as a witness for other suspects. He was examined for seven hours by investigators from the anti-corruption commission but he did not convey anything.

As for his absence when questioned as a suspect, the anti-corruption commission said it would reschedule. However, the exact time has not been announced.
