DPR Asks Jokowi To Respond Immediately To Eddy Hiariej's Resignation And Suggests That The Position Of Deputy Minister Of Law And Human Rights Is Empty

Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Nasir Djamil asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to immediately respond to the resignation letter of Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej alias Eddy Hiariej as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) which had been sent to the Ministry of Finance.

Nasir also suggested that the position of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights be vacated after Eddy left.

" Wamen Eddy should have done that. We hope that President Jokowi will immediately respond to Wamen Eddy's resignation letter. So that during the pretrial, the KPK's status as a suspect will not be overshadowed by his position as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights," Nasir told reporters, Wednesday, December 6.

The reason the PKS legislator for the Aceh electoral district suggested that the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights seat be vacated was in the context of efficiency. According to him, this position is not effective.

"I suggest that the position of Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights be vacated because it is ineffective and efficient," explained Nasir.

However, if it must still be filled, Nasir assessed that the Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR from the Gerindra faction, Habiburokhman, deserved to fill the position.

"If the President wants to fill the void, Habiburokhman from the Gerindra faction is suitable to occupy that position," he said.

It is known that the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) has received the resignation letter of Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham).

This was conveyed by the Special Staff Coordinator of President Ari Dwipayana who said this letter would soon be submitted to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) after returning from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The Ministry of State Affairs received the letter on Monday, December 4 yesterday.

"There has been a letter of resignation from the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights. So there is a letter of resignation from the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to the President and it will soon be submitted to the President," said Ari in a written statement, Wednesday, December 6.

Ari did not specify the reason Eddy resigned. The reason was that he had not read it because the letter was addressed to President Jokowi.

"I haven't seen the letter but the letter was addressed to the President. As soon as it was delivered after the President (on arrival, ed), yes, it was delivered after the president returned to Jakarta," he said.

For information, Eddy was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in a bribery and gratuity case with three other people. He has also been examined as a witness for other suspects on Monday, December 4.

The KPK revealed that the form of gratification was allegedly in the form of receiving a sum of money related to the consultation and assistance for the ratification of a company's legal entity. The determination of the suspect based on an investigation warrant (sprindik) has been signed since two weeks ago.

The anti-corruption commission has also sent a letter to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the determination of Eddy Hiariej as a suspect. The letter was received by the Ministry of State Secretariat (Setneg) on Friday, December 1.
