President Jokowi Inaugurates SPAM Kali Dendeng In Kupang City

KUPANG - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Kali Dendeng Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM) in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

"This will provide certainty that for water matters, especially drinking water in Kupang City and its surroundings can be supplied from SPAM Kali Dendeng," said President Jokowi in his remarks at the inauguration, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 6.

The project, which was built in 2020 by spending a budget of IDR 173 billion, is the answer to the water problem that has occurred in Kupang City and its surroundings.

The President said that water has always been a big problem in NTT Province, especially during the dry season. Therefore, the presence of SPAM Kali Dendeng will be used for 15 thousand household connections.

"But only about three thousand household connections have been used. This means that there are still very large remains," said the President.

President Jokowi has also instructed the Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono to immediately resolve the connection to the household. The President said that the central government was committed to assisting the NTT regional government to resolve the issue.

"But for NTT we will help from the central government, for Kupang we will help from the central government," said the President.

In addition to drinking water, the Kali Dendeng SPAM is also considered to provide benefits for agriculture in Kupang City and its surroundings. The President said that currently there are seven reservoirs that have been completed and will be completed in 2024.

"This will also have a tremendous effect on the production of rice fields productivity in NTT," said the President.
