The Indonesian International Open 2024 Billiards Tournament Followed By 152 Athletes

JAKARTA The Indonesian Billiards Sports Association (POBSI) will hold the Indonesia International Open 2024 tournament early next year which will be attended by hundreds of athletes from several countries.

The General Chair of POBSI, Hary Tanoesoedibjo, at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 5, 2023, said the world-class billiard tournament will take place on January 21-25, 2024 in Jakarta.

"For the first time, Indonesia has held an international-class billiard tournament. There are 152 athletes from around the world, such as Asia, Europe, and Africa," he said.

In addition to inviting the best billiard athletes from various countries, the Indonesia International Open 2024 qualification openly provides opportunities for potential national athletes.

The tournament will start from the qualifying round on January 16-19 2024 to get 16 slots to the main event. The quota will be contested by national and international athletes.

"We hope that this tournament will run smoothly and successfully because we need to lift the billiards to further develop. Moreover, we have the support of many parties such as the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora)," said Hary.

The tournament will match Ball 10 for the adult category and Ball 9 for athletes aged 17 years and under (U-17). In detail, 128 athletes in the adult category and 24 athletes in the U-17 age category.

The international level event was welcomed by the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia, Dito Ariotedjo.

He said this was the right momentum after Indonesia had just won the junior world through billiard athlete Derin Asaku Sitorus.

"The momentum is also right because recently Derin, a 14-year-old Indonesian athlete, was able to become the 10 Ball junior world champion in Austria. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is very happy with this tournament and is very supportive," he said.
