Vice President Reveals Interest Of Chinese Entrepreneurs Funding RI's Halal Products

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin expressed interest in Chinese entrepreneurs to fund research budget needs and develop halal products in Indonesia.

"Yesterday I went to China, dozens of Chinese businessmen will invest in the halal industry in Indonesia and are very interested in going there. That is only in one country, not yet another country," said Ma'ruf Amin after attending the launch of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Outlook (ISEO) 2024 and the Inauguration of the 3rd Indonesian University of Government (I-GOV) 2023 at the University of Indonesia, Depok, West Java, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 5.

The Vice President expressed optimism that the halal industry in Indonesia will develop rapidly when it is balanced with the support of the research budget and development of halal products in the country.

The Vice President said that the presence of foreign investors in working on halal products in Indonesia is also an opportunity for research and development funding that involves universities.

Ma'ruf said that the budget allocation for research and development in Indonesia is still relatively small, ranging from 0.24 percent of the total APBN.

"It's true, we are still very small. Therefore, we encourage universities to also cooperate with industry and various business worlds, to participate in financing research conducted by universities," he said.

The contribution of the government and the private sector is expected to be able to boost research funding and development of sharia economic products which are targeted to reach 2 percent by 2030.

"We will continue to push for an increase in the budget from year to year. Now it's only 0.24 percent, we hope 2030 will be 2 percent and we will continue," he said.
