BI Reveals The Importance Of Acceleration Of National Tourism Sector Recovery

JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) revealed how important it is to accelerate the recovery of the performance of the national tourism sector in supporting sustainable economic growth.

Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Aida S Budiman emphasized that there are several important lessons from the tourism recovery process during 2023 which can be the basis for strengthening tourism performance acceleration strategies in the future.

First, the activities of domestic tourists that support the recovery of national tourism need to be strengthened in the future, including through strengthening the BBWI strategy.

"Secondly, the increase in foreign tourists continues to be optimized to support the improvement of foreign exchange income and national tourism performance," he explained in his official statement Tuesday, December 5.

Furthermore, Aida added that the development of destinations needs to be accelerated by being quality-oriented (quality tourism/QT) as stated by the Government in the RPJMN, and ensuring inclusiveness of the development of destinations, especially by optimizing the role of young entrepreneurs.

Supporting this, the Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Odo RM Manuhutu, also emphasized the importance of synergy between stakeholders to further strengthen national tourism performance.

Related to this, Odo said there are things that need attention from the tourism sector. First, the development of quality tourism needs to be focused on bringing in high-spender foreign tourists.

Second, armed with the large population of young people and the ongoing demographic transition, the synergy of tourism strengthening programs must be able to target preferences and mobilize the potential of the young foreign exchange market.

"Third, private involvement continues to be encouraged to collaborate to maintain and maintain the sustainability of the DPSP development program," he explained

Deputy for Destination Development and Infrastructure, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Hariyanto, said that support and collaboration in developing tourism destinations will continue to be strengthened.

First, the assessment and monitoring of the implementation of quality tourism in DPSP periodically through the Tourism Secretary which can later be expanded to other potential destinations to be developed.

Second, the development of tourist villages through the organization of competitions based on the Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI), in collaboration with Bank Indonesia.

As well as the development of tourist villages and MSMEs that contribute to the tourism and creative sectors.

Furthermore, Aida said, Bank Indonesia is committed to strengthening synergies with the Central and Regional Governments to encourage tourism performance by optimizing all representative offices of Bank Indonesia, both at home and abroad.

This, among other things, is done through strengthening advocacy and study, developing MSMEs, digitizing tourism support payment systems, as well as promoting tourism investment through Investor Relations Unit (IRU)-Regional Investor Relations Unit (RIRU)-Global Investor Relations Unit (GIRU).
