Mount Anak Krakatau Sprays Volcanic Ash As High As 1,000 Meters

Mount Anak Krakatau at around 20.06 WIB experienced another eruption, ejecting ash with a column height of approximately 1,000 meters above the peak or about 1,157 meters above sea level.

According to a report broadcast on the official website of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the column of black ash with thick intensity from the mountain points northwest.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 60 millimeters and a duration of approximately 1 minute 9 seconds.

Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, South Lampung Andi Suardi said the closest settlement of Mount Anak Krakatau is on Sebesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers away.

Andi appealed to the public and fishermen not to approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area at a radius of five kilometers.

"Currently Mount Anak Krakatau is at level III (standby), with the recommendations of the community, fishermen, mountain climbers, not approaching the mountain with a radius of five kilometers," he said.

Since the birth of Mount Anak Krakatau in June 1927 until now, eruptions have occurred repeatedly, so that Mount Anak Krakatau grows bigger and higher.

The eruption characteristics of Mount Anak Krakatau are in the form of explosive eruptions and effusive eruptions with eruption breaks ranging from one to six years.

To note, Mount Anak Krakatau, which is located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, has experienced an eruption 10 times today.
