Metro Police Chief Talks About Possible Detention Of Firli Bahuri

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto spoke about the possibility of the detention of the inactive KPK chairman Firli Bahuri in the alleged extortion case against former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

According to him, detention is the investigator's authority. There are several subjective considerations regarding this matter.

"Yes, we'll see later, how is the belief from the investigator, whether subjectively there are things that need to be detained, the detention could be carried out," Karyoto told reporters, Monday, November 27.

Firli Bahuri has not been detained at this time, not for certain reasons. Karyoto said that the inactive KPK chairman had just been named a suspect and needed to have a further stage.

"The suspect has just been named, he has not been summoned as a suspect, yes, there are phases," he said.

Karyoto emphasized that detention was a forced attempt by investigators. This is in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

"The detention is part of a forced effort, depending on the investigator, what opinion will be, yes. It will be handed over to investigators later," said Karyoto.

In the case of alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities, Firli Bahuri was named a suspect based on the results of the case title conducted on Wednesday, November 22.

Several pieces of evidence that became the basis for determining the suspect, namely, foreign exchange documents worth Rp7.4 billion. Then, there were also the results of the extraction of 21 cellphones.

Firli was charged with Article 12e, 12B or Article 11 of Law number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code. Thus, it is threatened with life imprisonment.
