This Is Robotaxi Ioniq 5, Development In Singapore Starting Operations In 2024
Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) announced the opening of the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS), a research and development site for robotaxi Ioniq 5 located in Singapore.
The vehicle fleet will be manufactured and designated for Motional commercial services in the US, in 2024.
Robotaxi Ioniq 5 is one of the 4th level autonomous electric vehicles (AV) certified by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) in the US. This certification is evidence of a very thorough vehicle development and testing program, safety and reliability, as well as the sophistication of autonomous technology.
The CEO of HMGICS, Hong Bum Jung, said that the construction of the facility for the development of robotaxi Ioniq 5 is in line with the company's mission to change the value of mobility by presenting advanced future mobility solutions.
"Starting production of the IONIQ 5 robotaxi in collaboration with Motional, we are committed to carrying out a sustainable innovation journey, which aims to spearhead future changes in the paradigm of mobility," said Hong Bum Jung, on the company's website, Wednesday, November 22.
This facility combines advanced automation and real-time monitoring as well as data evaluation to push for possible limits in production. It is also equipped with advanced features made specifically for HMGICS to support AV production, including testing facilities and calibration centers.
Motional also takes employees to development sites to help with production. These employees are located at the Autonomous Vehicle Integration Center and will carry out important diagnostic tasks, software development, calibration, and validation to ensure that the example of robotaxi IONIQ 5 that has completed meets the right specifications and is ready to be implemented.
