Police Have Determined That The Driver Of The Rohingya Immigrant Carrier Is A Suspect In Trafficking In Persons

BANDA ACEH - East Aceh Police Investigator, Aceh, named a truck driver carrying dozens of Rohingya immigrants as suspects and put two other people on the wanted list (DPO).

East Aceh Police Chief AKBP Andy Rahmansyah, said the suspect had the initials KW (27), a resident of Dama Pulo SA Village, Darul Aman District, East Aceh Regency.

"KW was arrested when the driven truck brought dozens of Rohingya immigrants on Sunday (19/11) at around 01.30 WIB," Andy Rahmansyah said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 22,

Meanwhile, two other people, namely L (35), a resident of Beunot Village, Darul Aman District, East Aceh Regency, and I (50) a resident of Ulee Ateung Village, Madat District, East Aceh Regency, were included in the DPO.

KW's arrest began with public information that a truck was suspected of carrying dozens of people whose backs were covered in tarpaulins in the Madat District, East Aceh Regency.

Furthermore, the ranks of the Madat Police investigated and chased the truck. After being stopped, officers found 36 Rohingya immigrants in the truck.

"From his confession, KW was given Rp. 15 million to bring Rohingya immigrants who were previously landed from a ship on the beach, Madat District. From Rp. 15 million, KW has only received Rp. 3 million," he said.

Based on the results of the examination, KW explained that people with the initials L were told to transport the dozens of Rohingya immigrants somewhere. Meanwhile, perpetrator I was the person who was ordered by L to show the location of the immigrant pick-up.

The police chief said the perpetrators were suspected of violating Article 120 Paragraph (1) and (2) of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration in conjunction with Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons. The minimum penalty is three years and a maximum of 15 years in prison.

"We remind the public, especially fishermen, to inform if there are Rohingya immigrants who enter through the jurisdiction of the East Aceh Police," said Andy Rahmansyah.

Previously, as many as 36 Rohingya immigrants were secured from a truck covered by tarpaulins on the coastal area of Madat District, East Aceh Regency, Sunday (19/11) at around 01.30 WIB.

Dozens of illegal immigrants consisted of 14 men, 15 women, and seven children were taken to the Idi Sport Center (ISC) in Idi Rayeuk, East Aceh Regency.
