Formappi Values Jokowi's Impeachment Issue Is A Challenge For The DPR To Evaluate Government Policy

JAKARTA - Researcher at the Indonesian Parliamentary Concerned Community Forum (Formappi) Lucius Karus, highlighted the issue of impeachment of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) which was considered by a number of constitutional law experts to have met the constitutional element.

The discourse on Jokowi's resignation arose because the head of state was considered involved in efforts to win the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair in the 2024 presidential election.

Lucius considered that this issue was a challenge for the DPR to seriously evaluate President Jokowi's policies which were considered detrimental to the people, nation and state.

"So, this is actually challenging the DPR. Is the statement of disappointment made by a number of parliamentary politicians really depart from concerns over the deviation of the President's policy? Or, just a political statement meant to get public sympathy only?," Lucius told reporters, Monday, November 20.

According to Lucius, ahead of the 2024 General Election, many statements by politicians are based on their respective political interests and for the sake of electoral effects only. So he said, the alleged policy deviation was only used as a political commodity for a moment.

Therefore, Lucius considered that the DPR should immediately take concrete steps on government policies.

"If according to constitutional law experts there is sufficient reason to impeach Jokowi, real steps should immediately roll out in parliament to gather support from the DPR in using the right of inquiry," said Lucius.

Politically, added Lucius, President Jokowi's legitimacy was increasingly eroded because of his non-neutral actions in the 2024 General Election. Moreover, he said, the president's alignment with certain candidates was considered to have his position as head of state.

"The President's alignment brings a danger to the openness of efforts to mobilize power infrastructure for the benefit of the group supported by the President alone. This is certainly unfair and against the principles of overflowing and jurdil elections," he concluded.
