JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin said the world would not be better by only producing many scholars. According to him, the world needs a generation of smart and good morals.
"The world will not get better just by scoring more scholars. The world needs a generation that is smart as well as good morals," said Ma'ruf when delivering a scientific oration to the 'Indonesian Senate Open Session of the Islamic University of Nusantara (Uninus)' in the context of a doctoral, master's and 67th scholaral graduation in Bandung City, West Java, Thursday, November 16, was confiscated by Antara.
Ma'ruf advised all academic community at the Uninus Campus to make the Islamic values absorbed on campus the main foundation in self-development.
On that occasion, Ma'ruf conveyed that the role of university institutions in the midst of the global community continued to change over time.
Universities, which were originally a place for academics to sow and spread science, continued to develop into a home for researchers to grow.
According to Ma'ruf, many world universities became the birthplace of important discoveries and innovations in various fields of science, which were able to change the face of civilization.
"Now, with the increasingly advances in science and technology, various literature notes that the transformation of the role and strategy of universities is a necessity. Higher education is not only a place to hone science, but also a key institution that plays a concrete role in building morals, culture, and community welfare," he said.
The main task of universities, he continued, is not only to produce as many graduates as possible, but also to produce quality and moral alumni, and to be able to contribute greatly to the demands of the industrial world and the times.
"Education is the key to the nation's future. Therefore, the quality and quality of education at all levels, especially universities, must continue to be improved. Education architectures must be encouraged to be able to produce human resources (human resources) with future expertise and skills. So, generation after generation is able to play a significant role in managing world civilization for the benefit of mankind," he said.

He also conveyed several messages to graduates of undergraduate and graduate programs.
First, Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that graduation is just a formal procession that marks the completion of academic education, while the essence of graduation is the beginning of service and struggle to practice science and contribute to efforts to overcome the nation's problems.
Second, he encourages scholars to become a generation with high sensitivity and concern for the surrounding environment.
"Be the development agents that bring real improvements in the midst of pluralistic Indonesian people," said Ma'ruf.
Third, he encourages graduates of undergraduate programs to continue to cultivate Islam that is rahmatan lil alamin in national economic development, especially breathing sharia and increasing literacy, expertise, and skills to fill the Indonesian Islamic economic and financial work market.
"Fourth, become intellectuals who have knowledge and uphold Islamic values and morality," he said.
