Nganjuk Hit By Landslides, BPBD Reports 20 Missing Residents, 14 Injured

JAKARTA - There was rain with moderate to high intensity on Sunday, February 14 at 18.30 Western Indonesia Time in Ngetos Village, Ngetos District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java.

This rain caused landslides in Ngetos Village. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Nganjuk Regency reported that this incident resulted in 20 local residents missing and 14 others injured.

"Residents who have been injured have received treatment at the public health center. Landslides also severely damaged 8 housing units," said the Head of the BNPB Disaster Data Center Raditya Jati in his statement, Monday, February 15.

Raditya said that currently, BPBD is handling emergencies such as searching and evacuating missing victims.

"The joint team also evacuated affected residents around the site. The local BPBD continues to carry out post-disaster monitoring and rapid field assessments," he said.

In this regard, other areas in East Java Province have experienced flooding since last night at 11:50 p.m. local time. BPBD Pasuruan Regency reported that flooding occurred in a number of villages in 3 sub-districts, namely Bangli, Winongan, and Grati Districts.

Raditya said that the flood was triggered by rain with moderate to high intensity. This condition resulted in the overflow of the Kedunglarangan River in Bangli District, the Rejoso River in Winongan District, and the Grati District.

There were 294 families affected and 357 people displaced. There were 116 people who fled at the Al-Islah Mosque and 148 people at Setia Budi Kindergarten. Hundreds of houses were affected with floodwater levels of about 70 centimeters.

"BPBD and other related elements have made emergency handling efforts to the affected communities," he concluded.
