Army Chief Of Staff Agus: TNI Actively Involved In Political Practically Criminal Sanctions

JAKARTA - Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) General TNI Agus Subiyanto emphasized that the neutrality of the TNI in the implementation of the 2024 General Election already has a regulatory corridor.

"When it comes to neutrality, we have a corridor, yes," said Agus at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 7, which was confiscated by Antara.

The regulation, he said, is Article 39 of Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI which prohibits TNI soldiers from becoming members of political parties and engaging in practical political activities.

"Second, Law Number 7 of 2017 (Ection Law) is that if we want practical politics, we must retire first," he said.

For this reason, he emphasized that there will be sanctions imposed if the TNI is actively involved in practical politics in the 2024 General Election.

"So the TNI is not active. If the TNI is actively involved in practical politics, the sanctions are criminal and disciplinary action from the commander. So we are the corridor," he said.

On this occasion, the Army Chief of Staff attended the Commission I Working Meeting (Raker) of the DPR together with the TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono, the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral Muhammad Ali, and the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (KASAU) Marshal TNI Fadjar Prasetyo.

The meeting was held with an agenda to discuss the readiness of the TNI in supporting the security of the 2024 General Election, and contingency plans in securing the 2024 General Election along with budget support.
