US House Of Representatives Prepares Congressional Gold Medal For Victim Police Of Capitol Hill Riot

JAKARTA - Chairman of the United States (US) House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, announced the Draft Law awarding congressional gold medals for police officers who were victims of riots on Capitol Hill, Washington DC on January 6.

A Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick is known to have died in the riot. Two other officers who were injured in the riot died after undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, dozens of other policemen were injured in the clashes caused by the Donald Trump supporter.

"We have been reminded of the extraordinary courage of the United States Capitol Police, men and women who risked and gave their lives to save us, were martyred for our democracy," Nancy Pelosi said in a statement.

Pelosi has asked all MPs to become co-sponsors of the bill. The legislation will create three congressional gold medals to be awarded to the US Capitol Police and Washington Metropolitan Police Department as well as to the Smithsonian Institution for exhibition and research purposes.

Appreciation and award to the police who were victims of the Capitol Hill riot received a warm response and thanks from the Capitol Police Department and the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.

“Recognition of the courage of our police officers, at a time of emotional and exhaustion is a tremendous gift. We have too many heroes to count and we are humble, Congress may recognize them this way," said Yogananda Pittman, acting chief of the US Capitol Police, in a statement.
