Pangkas Queue, Hutama Karya Reduces Cash Top-up Services At Toll Gates

JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) has begun to reduce the service of top-up electronic money cards (EU) in cash on all managed toll roads. This policy was first tested on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) Pekanbaru-Dumai (Permai) section gradually.

Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Tjahjo Purnomo said that since October 20, 2023, the top-up cash service on the Permai toll road at the North Kandis Toll Gate (GT) and South Kandis GT has been converted into a non-top-up service (direct tapping).

Tjahjo said that with this policy, the top-up cash services, which were originally available at seven GTs, will be only five GTs and will continue to be reduced gradually until the end of this year.

"If this trial is successful on the Permai toll road, we will also apply it on other toll roads," he said, Friday, November 3.

Tjahjo said that non-cash payments or electronic money on toll roads in Indonesia were implemented with the aim of cutting the payment transaction time on toll roads to minimize queues and congestion that often occur during payments in cash.

Therefore, Tjahjo hopes that with this reduction in cash top-ups, toll road users will get used to checking and filling the EU card balance first before crossing the toll road, considering that this cash top-up service is only a supporting service if there is an underbalanced EU card.

"In the future, Hutama Karya will eliminate options for top-up cash services across managed toll gate networks to avoid time-consuming cash transaction processes and create queues," he said.

In addition, this transition is also carried out as company support towards the implementation of the contactless transaction system or Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) which will soon be piloted on several toll roads in Indonesia.

It is hoped that all toll road users are accustomed to this rule and make it a new culture, so that transaction times on toll roads are shorter and do not interfere with the comfort of other road users. In addition, EU cards can also not only be used on toll roads, but also payments for other public transportation and other private expenditures," said Tjahjo.

Tjahjo hopes that toll road users can quickly fill out their EU balances through various available methods. One of them is through an application that provides the latest services and information on the Hutama Karya toll road, namely HK Toll Apps.
