AFC Cup: Bali United Swallows First Defeat Through Drama 9 Goals
JAKARTA The nine-goal drama was created when Bali United lost their first in the 2023/2024 AFC Cup group stage against the Central Coast Marines.
Bali had taken the lead before losing with a landslide score of 3-6 from the Australian team at the Central Coast Stadium, Australia, Thursday, October 26, 2023 evening WIB.
The advantage of the team nicknamed Serdadu Tridatu occurred in the 17th minute. It was an own goal from host Jack Warshawsky.
After that, the host Mariners took a 3-1 lead before halftime. The three goals were netted by Jacob Farrell in the 24th minute and two penalties from Marco Tulio each in the 34th and 37th minutes.
Just two minutes after returning from the dressing room, Bali United managed to reduce the position to 2-3 through Private Mbarga's goal.
However, three minutes later the Marines moved back. This time they broke into Tridatu's goal through a goal from Christian Theoharous.
Bali's goal conceded again after that due to Kadek Arel's own goal in the 54th minute before Farrell scored his second goal in this match in the 67th minute.
Efforts from Bali to reduce the position then resulted in Jefferson Assis' goal in the 83rd minute. The 6-3 duo for the Marines lasted until the whistle ended the match.
This defeat made Bali stuck in third place in the group standings with 4 points. They are one point adrift of Terengganu in second place and two points from the Marines.
