Strengthening The Management Of The Iron And Steel Association, Minister Of Industry Agus Gives This Message

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita confirmed the management of The Indonesia Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA) of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association for the period 2023-2025 at the Ministry of Industry Building, Jakarta, today.

Through Chairman's Decree Number 003/INT/SK-CHAIRMAN/IISIA/VIII/2023, establishes Purwono Widodo as Chairman of IISIA, Ismail Mandry as Vice Chairman 1, and Tony Taniwan as Vice Chairman 2.

Meanwhile, Widodo Setiadharmaji was appointed as Executive Director of IISIA accompanied by Yerry Idroes as Co-Executive Director.

"We hope that IISIA as a representative of the iron and steel industry can support various efforts to meet domestic demand for steel, improve the quality of steel products, and take initiatives in developing renewable energy," said Minister of Industry Agus in a written statement received by VOI, Monday, October 23.

Agus said the steel industry sector must be an example in embracing the principles of sustainability and playing an active role in efforts to minimize environmental impacts.

"This is also related to the decarbonization action plan in the industrial sector, where the industrial sector is targeted to reach Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2050, or 10 years faster than the national target," he said.

He considered that IISIA has a very far vision ahead, namely developing a competitive and environmentally friendly steel industry.

"Hopefully the IISIA management can carry out the work program that has been prepared and collaborated with the Ministry of Industry in advancing the national steel industry," he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman IISIA Purwono Widodo said, IISIA as the Ministry of Industry's fostered association can become a strategic partner of the government and contribute to the development of the national steel industry.

"IISIA is committed to channeling the aspirations of members of associations related to government policies and playing an active role in improving cooperative relations between members, organizations or iron and steel institutions, both regional and international levels," he added.

For your information, in the midst of slowing global economic conditions, Indonesia's basic metal industry grew by 11.49 percent (yoy), driven by an increase in demand for exports of steel products and ferronickel.

The development of the steel product trade balance in 2023 is also quite encouraging. During the first quarter of 2023, there was a surplus of 3.15 billion US dollars, an increase of 14.6 percent compared to the same period in 2022 with a surplus value of 2.75 billion US dollars.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry continues to strive to create a conducive business climate through the implementation of various strategic programs and policies to protect and develop the national steel industry and increase industrial competitiveness.
