6 Monkeypox Cases In Jakarta Detected In The Last 9 Days

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Health Office (Dinkes) has again recorded new cases of monkeypox or monkeypox in the capital. Over the past nine days, there have been 6 cases detected.

Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ngabila Salama, revealed that there were 4 additional cases of monkeypox as of October 21, 2023.

"These four new cases are different and there is no connection (no history of close contact with each other)," Ngabila said in a short message, Sunday, October 22.

The other two cases were found based on the results of examinations, respectively, as of October 19, 2023 and October 13, 2023.

In addition, there is one case of the first monkeypox in Jakarta that was detected in August 2022. Now, the monkeypox patient confirmed last year has recovered.

Meanwhile, the second and third cases are currently undergoing isolation in hospitals to break the chain of transmission. Then, four new cases were detected still in the process of being referred to insulating to the hospital.

"Seven positive cases in DKI are all male aged 25-35 years," said Ngabila.

In the findings of this case, the DKI Health Office conducted an active case finding on people who could potentially be infected or transmitted, especially in close contacts of detected cases.

There is a possibility that the person concerned is infected from other people in the country. Thus, it is possible that there are other cases of monkeypox in Indonesia that have not been detected.

The DKI Health Office has also examined a number of other people who were detected as suspected monkeypox. Three PCR examination results have come out and the results have been negative.
