The Most Vulnerable Group To Stroke Related To Blood Types, Check Explanation
YOGYAKARTA - Stroke is a health problem with a fairly high case rate in the world. Research shows that there are groups most vulnerable to stroke, which are related to certain blood types. This research used a meta-analysis method involving more than hundreds of thousands of people.
Store is a multifactorial disease, that is, it can be triggered by several risk factors. Strokes often appear and are experienced by people as they get older. Apart from that, there are people with certain blood types who have a higher potential for suffering a stroke. So who is the group most vulnerable to stroke based on research?
Groups Most Vulnerable to Stroke
In a journal on the Neurology page published in August 2022, people with blood type A are said to have a 16 percent higher risk of having a stroke before the age of 60. Meanwhile, people with blood type O have a 12 lower risk of suffering a stroke.
"In particular, we found that blood type A has an early risk of stroke. They are more likely to experience blood clots," said researcher Braxton D. Mitchell from Maryland University, Baltimore, United States, as reported on the American Academy of Neurology website.
The meta-analysis research conducted involved 48 studies linking genetic factors and ischemic stroke in Europe, North America, and Asia. This study used 16,927 patients with stroke and 576,353 people without stroke to determine the blood types that are susceptible to stroke.
The researchers looked at all the chromosomes of the volunteers to identify genetic variants associated with stroke. An association was found between early stroke and an area of the chromosome that includes genes related to blood types A, AB, B, and O.
Neurologists from the University of Maryland revealed that blood clotting factors, such as platelets and cells that line blood vessels as well as proteins that play a role in blood clotting, can trigger certain blood types who suffer from stroke.
Meanwhile, strokes in young people are more likely to be caused by the buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries (a process called atherosclerosis) and are more likely to be caused by factors related to clot formation. Apart from that, the study also stated that people with blood type B have an 11 percent risk of stroke, regardless of age.
In addition, a research team from the University of Maryland analyzed data from 7,000 stroke patients and nearly 600,000 healthy people from 48 different studies.

Data on Stroke Cases in Indonesia
Based on data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the prevalence of stroke in Indonesia in 2018 from a doctor's diagnosis in people aged more than or equal to 15 years was 10.9 percent or a total of 2,120,362 people.
This is a review of the groups most vulnerable to stroke based on research that has been conducted. Although this study shows that blood type O has a higher risk of stroke, further research is still needed to clarify the mechanism of the increased risk of stroke.
