KPAI Criticizes Smoking Students In School Environments Suspected Of Being The Cause Of The Fall Of SMPN 132 Cengkareng Students
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Ai Maryati Solihah, highlighted the smoking behavior among underage students. Moreover, the disgraceful act was carried out in the school environment.
"If it's like that (smoking in the school environment) I want to ask too. I'll check (the teacher) of the BK first, ask several Class Mayors. Basically, it's delinquency like that over and over again," said KPAI Chairman Ai Maryati when confirmed by VOI, Wednesday, October 11.
KPAI said that it would also ask the school for information regarding allegations of students smoking in the school environment which resulted in death.
"Are there children who have been caught doing that so far, or there have been complaints from other children. This is usually the child's trend, if you smoke there it's safe, it's there again. But this is killing," he said.

KPAI assessed that it had not found any students smoking in the school environment. According to him, this act is usually done outside the school environment.
"If juvenile delinquency wants to smoke or something, I need to check this too. Because as far as I know, in the school environment the children don't. Even if they want to (smoking) they usually come out, or where," he said.
KPAI hopes that this incident will not happen again at the school and a number of other schools in Jakarta. The need for the role of teachers in supervising students in the school environment is also very necessary.
