BMW Launches Two New BMW 5 Series PHEV Sedans
JAKARTA - After launching the fully electric BMW i5 and combustion engine variant with 48-volt hybrid mid technology, BMW today, September 27, officially expanded the BMW 5 Series sedan lineup with two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, namely BMW 530e and BMW 550e xDrive, which will start available in November 2023 but the price has not yet been announced.
From the company's release, September 27, it is known that the PHEV model of the latest BMW 5 Series Sedan offers spontaneous performance, enhanced efficiency, and further electric range.
Both models use the latest BMW eDrive technology for plug-in hybrid systems, combined with a four-cylindrical gasoline engine on BMW 530e and a fresh six-cylinder gasoline engine at BMW 550e xDrive from the latest generation of modular BMW Group Efficient Dynamics.
BMW said the electric motor, which was specially developed for hybrid drive, was integrated into the transmission of 8 accelerations of Steptronic Sport along with its electronics which contributed maximum power of up to 145 kW/197 dk (BMW 550e Sedan) or 135 kW/184 dk (BMW 550e xDrive).
Combined with the latest generation of BMW eDrive technology, the six-cylinder gasoline engine is as fresh as 3.0 liters on BMW 550e xDrive produces system outputs of up to 360 kW/489 dk and torques of 700 Nm. The plug-in hybrid system transmits its power through the driver of all BMW xDrive intelligent wheels.
BMW 550e xDrive is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The maximum speed of BMW 550e xDrive is limited to 250 km/hour and the maximum speed is only 140 km/hour during the use of electric mode.
Meanwhile, BMW 530e has a four-cylindrical gas cylinder of 2.0 liters with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and along with a highly integrated e-drive unit, producing a maximum system output of 220 kW/299 dk with a torque of 450 Nm. BMW 530e is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 km/hour in 6.3 seconds. The highest speed is 230 km/hour, and only 140 km/hour in electric mode.
The electric range between these two models reaches 83 to 90 kilometers for the BMW 530e Sedan and 93 to 103 kilometers for the BMW 550e xDrive Sedan. BMW has also increased faster battery charging, with a capacity of up to 100 percent in 3 hours and 15 minutes.
