Minister Of Energy And Mineral Resources Invites China To Build Super Grids To Hub Downstream
JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif offered a plan for future Super Grid development at the ASEAN-China Forum.
Arifin hopes that this idea can reduce inter-island interconnectivity and increase clean energy-based interconnectivity.
"This interconnectivity (Super Grid) will optimize the use of renewable energy sources and create a sustainable energy system throughout Indonesia," said Arifin in a statement received by VOI, Wednesday, September 20.
The presence of the Super Grid, continued Arifin, cannot be separated from Indonesia's geographical condition as an archipelagic country which has potential renewable energy resources, namely more than 3,600 Gigawatts (GW).
"4.7 GW of solar power will be developed by 2030. Meanwhile the long-term target is around 421 GW or 60 percent of the total capacity by 2060," he explained.
Apart from the Super Grid idea, Arifin emphasized the vital role of natural gas as part of accelerating the clean energy transition. The use of natural gas continues to be optimized through several programs, such as building integrated gas transmission and distribution, building infrastructure facilities (Floating Storage Regasification Units, Refineries and Liquid Natural Gas Terminals), city gas, pipeline networks, and converting diesel fuel to gas at power plants. electricity.
"We are opening opportunities for Chinese gas companies to invest in gas development in Indonesia," said Arifin.
Furthermore, Arifin conveyed the importance of developing the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle (KBLBB) ecosystem.
Moreover, he said, Indonesia has great potential for mineral resources, starting from nickel, bauxite, tin and copper as well as refining units (smelters) which are being boosted domestically.
"The favorable geographic location can make Indonesia a hub for mineral downstreaming and the clean energy technology industry," he stressed.
