Hong Kong Open 2023: Jonathan Christie Qualifies For Final
JAKARTA Jonatan Christie's men's singles secured a dramatic victory over Malaysia's Ng Tze Yong to qualify for the final round of the Hong Kong Open 2023.
Jonathan had to play for an hour 24 minutes to seal the victory of three games 21-19, 21-24, and 21-13 at Hong Kong Coliseum, Saturday, September 16, 2023 evening WIB.
This victory made Jonathan beautify his winning streak over Ng Tze Yong to 3-1. Jonathan's only defeat took place last March at the Australian Open.
Jonatan's escape made the all-Indonesian final opportunity open. It happens if Anthony Sinisuka Ginting wins over Japan's representative, Kenta Nishimoto.

Jonathan is the third representative of Indonesia to reach the final round. Before him, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin had already obtained tickets.
Unfortunately, two tickets each from the men's singles and one men's doubles failed to be obtained by Indonesia. They are Gregoria Mariska Tunjung and Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan.
Gregoria lost to Japanese first seed Akan Yamaguchi, while Hendra/Ahsan fell in the hands of Denmark's seventh seed, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
"They are compared to the previous meetings, today they played more neatly. If the no lob ball was easy to penetrate, this time we can return to pressing it," said Ahsan.
