Puan Sindir Police Who Is Not Proactive In Handling Wife's Domestic Violence In Bekasi Leads To Death
JAKARTA - The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, regretted the incident of a young mother who was killed by her own husband after experiencing domestic violence (Domestic Violence). Puan firmly asked the police to commit to overcoming every case of domestic violence.
As previously reported, Mega Sriyani Dewi was killed by her husband, Nando (25) at their rented house, on Jalan Cikedokan, West Cikarang, Bekasi Regency after the two of them got into an argument. Even before the murder, the victim always received harsh treatment from her husband.
Ironically, the victim had reported the domestic violence case to the Bekasi Metro Police but was allegedly stopped because her husband wanted to end in peace. As a result of the authorities' lack of seriousness in handling the domestic violence case, the victim finally died after being involved in an argument with her husband.
In fact, according to the victim's brother's confession, Mega has included post-mortem evidence of the violence committed by her husband for a period of 3 years. If it is true that the police suspect that the police have stopped the case, Puan assesses that the sensitivity of the officers to domestic violence victims is still lacking, so the perpetrators commit repeated acts of violence.
"The police must firmly handle domestic violence cases. Because domestic violence perpetrators who often commit violence against their partners, usually return to their actions in the future," said Puan, Thursday, September 14.
"This should be the attention of the police, don't let the perpetrator's promises take a moment and then reduce the image of the police's firmness. Keep in mind, domestic violence is a crime that is often carried out repeatedly," continued Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also asked the police to evaluate the process of reporting, investigating, and taking action against domestic violence cases. Puan hopes that the effective handling of domestic violence legal cases can prevent similar cases from happening again in the future.

"The police are also responsible for whether or not the settlement of the domestic violence incident was successful. Moreover, until the victim died when he had made a complaint about the violence he experienced, unfortunately, he was not taken seriously," he explained.
The police stated that the investigation into the domestic violence case experienced by Mega would continue, and become a burden for the perpetrators. The police also said that before the murder occurred, his party continued to try to investigate the domestic violence case experienced by Mega but the victim was always unable to attend when contacted.
"The police should be able to be proactive and pick up the ball. If there are strange indications, go directly to the victim so that the victim also feels comfortable and not intimidated. So prioritize a four-time approach to sensitive cases like this," said Puan.
Puan continued, the success of the police in protecting victims of domestic violence and taking action against perpetrators of domestic violence is the main indicator of the effectiveness of the legal system to protect human rights and social justice. Especially for women who are victims of violence a lot.
"This incident is a reminder of the importance of prioritizing the protection of women from violence. Because there is no room for domestic violence actors in this country," said Bung Karno's grandson.
Puan also highlighted the question of the two victim's children who were at the scene at the time of the murder even though they did not watch in person. He asked the authorities to provide psychological assistance.
Even though they didn't see it, this incident certainly left trauma for the victim's child. Because the child has a strong enough memory at every event. Trauma healing for the victim's child and family must be given and pay attention," said Puan.
