Google's Digital Future Project: Support Expert Meeting to Discuss AI Technology

JAKARTA - Google launched the Digital Future Project, an initiative that aims to bring together various opinions to encourage efforts to understand and overcome the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI).

Through this project, Google will support researchers, host meetings, and encourage debate on public policy solutions to encourage responsible AI development.

Google.org has also prepared funds amounting to 20 million US dollars, for leading think tanks and academic institutions around the world to facilitate research on this technology.

AI has the potential to address some of society's most complex challenges. However, it cannot be denied that AI also raises questions about fairness, bias, misinformation, security and the future of the world of work.

"To answer these questions requires deep collaboration between industry, academia, government and civil society," said Brigitte Hoyer Gosselink, Director, Google.org on the Google blog.

With this funding, Google hopes that independent thinkers representing a variety of perspectives and expertise can explore these technology issues, including how AI will impact global security as well as its impact on the workforce and the economy.

Not to forget, Google.org also highlighted how this discussion could later create a governance structure and cross-industry efforts to encourage responsible AI innovation.

"This fund will support institutions from countries around the world, and we hope to provide more information about these organizations soon," he added.

Digital Futures Fund's inaugural grant recipients include the Aspen Institute, Brookings Institution, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Center for a New American Security, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Institute for Security and Technology, Leadership Conference Education Fund, MIT Future Works, R Street Institute and SeedAI.
