Join Other Coalitions, Democrats Will Not Require AHY Cawapres 2024
JAKARTA - The Democrat Party has stated that it will join the coalition of other parties after leaving the Change Coalition for Unity (KPP) and no longer supports the presidential candidate Anies Baswedan.
This decision was taken after the general chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) gathered the chairman of the DPD throughout Indonesia for a meeting to discuss the direction of his coalition on Monday.
Regarding the plan, Spokesperson and Head of the Democratic Bakomstra Herzaky Mahendra Putra, revealed that his party did not require AHY as a vice presidential candidate in the new coalition later.
"Just like the previous coalition, the Democrats will not ask the vice presidential candidates to be a condition for a coalition," Herzaky told reporters, Wednesday, September 6.
Herzaky emphasized that from the start the Democratic Party did not apply for a vice presidential candidate to be taken from its cadres. However, it was AHY who was asked to become a vice presidential candidate by the previous coalition.
"It is clear from the previous coalition, until now, there has been no request to become a vice presidential candidate. Yesterday why did we ask about the vice president? Because they were the ones who asked. This must be underlined," said Herzaky.

Currently, added Herzaky, the Democrat Party is considering the opportunity for its party to support the other two presidential candidates. It is known, apart from the coalition supporting Anies Baswedan, there are still coalitions supporting Prabowo Subianto and Ganjar Pranowo.
"Of course we will do it right first, we want to consider it in a comprehensive manner. This is how to decide the fate for the nation and state, the fate of this people, not the decision that is taken for a few minutes, not us," he concluded.
