Volvo Makes Positive Results, PHEV Cars Control The Environmentally Friendly Vehicle Sales Segment During August
JAKARTA - Amid the growing demand for electric vehicles around the world, consumer interest in hybrid vehicles has remained high. Volvo, a Swedish manufacturer, is an example that has managed to record impressive sales of hybrid vehicles.
Reporting from InsideEVs, Tuesday, September 5, Volvo reported that last August they managed to sell 51,636 vehicles globally, marking an 18 percent increase from the previous year.
Of the total sales, 17,005 vehicles are battery-based electric vehicles (Buttery Electric Vehicle/BEV) or Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), which contributes 32.9 percent of total sales.
Specifically, AV Volvo car sales increased rapidly by 167 percent with a total of 6,600 units sold. Meanwhile, PHEV Volvo cars contributed to the most sales in the environmentally friendly vehicle segment, with 10,345 units sold, recording an increase of 46 percent from the previous year in the same period.
During the first eight months of this year, Volvo has sold a total of 447,492 vehicles, recording an 18 percent increase compared to the previous year. Of these, 172,125 units are electrified vehicles, showing an increase of 52 percent from the previous year in the same period.

For the BEV segment, Volvo managed to sell 71,424 units, recording a significant increase of 172 percent. However, Volvo's electric-based car sales are still dominated by PHEV, which accounts for 100,701 units, up 16 percent from the previous year.
With this extraordinary achievement, Volvo is optimistic it can surpass last year's electric-based vehicle sales, which reached 205,000 vehicles. Volvo has introduced its electrification models such as C40 Recharge and XC40 Recharge. In August, the XC40 Recharge sold 4.573 units, while the C40 Recharge recorded sales of 2.087 vehicles.
The Gothenburg-based company, Sweden, also plans to strengthen its electric vehicle line by launching new models such as EX90, EX30, and its first electric MPV, EM90, which are expected to increase sales of Volvo environmentally friendly vehicles.
Like many other manufacturers in the automotive industry, Volvo also has ambitious plans to present more electric vehicle models by 2030.
