Ambon District Court Judge Sentences Grandpa Obscene To 6 Years In Prison

AMBON - The panel of judges at the Ambon District Court, Maluku, sentenced Usman alias Daeng (61), to a criminal act of sexual abuse against a minor.

"Declaring that the defendant is found guilty of violating Article 81 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2022 concerning Child Protection," said Chief Justice Orpha Martina accompanied by Rahmat Selang and Nova Salmon as judge members of the verdict trial at the Ambon District Court as reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 1.

The panel of judges also sentenced the defendant Usman to pay a fine of Rp. 10 million, subsidiary to two months in prison, and stipulated that the defendant's detention period was reduced entirely from the main sentence.

The judge said that the aggravating thing for the defendant was sentenced to prison because his actions had traumatized the victim, while the mitigating factor was that the defendant was polite, elderly, and had never been convicted.

The verdict of the panel of judges was lighter than the demands of the Ambon District Attorney's public prosecutor who demanded that the defendant be sentenced to seven years in prison.

The defendant Usman was detained by the police on January 25, 2023 for committing a criminal act of molestation against a girl who is still his own neighbor in Ambon City.

Based on this decision, both the prosecutor and the defendant expressed their thoughts so that the judge's decision did not have permanent legal force.
