Alucial Fans Become Causes Of Rare Rain Clouds In Jakarta
JAKARTA - Geomorphological conditions shaped like an alumvial fan are the cause of rarely falling rain clouds and exacerbating air pollution conditions during the dry season in Jakarta.
"Jakarta is a geomorphological position such as an alumvial fan surrounded by hilly areas, so the air is not easy to move," said Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 29.
Minister Siti said that clouds do not easily approach the mainland of Jakarta, so that sometimes clouds rain at sea.
The weather modification technology is an effort made by the government to reduce rain and control air pollution in the capital city of Indonesia.
"When there are clouds that have enough water vapor to fall in certain areas, then (rain) is dropped through that technology," he said.
Minister Siti said that if rain clouds did not appear in Jakarta's skies, the government would seek micro-scale weather modification techniques through water spraying carried out from high-rise buildings in order to affect the composition of the air.
The activity of spraying water from the top of the building serves to reduce air pollution that is now enveloping Jakarta.

On September 2-4, 2023, the government will again hold a weather modification technology operation to make it rain in Jakarta.
The operation was carried out as an effort to control air pollution considering that there was an ASEAN 2023 Summit which took place at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Central Jakarta, on September 5-7, 2023.
Based on KLHK data, the largest air pollution sources in the Jabodetabek area are 44 percent of vehicles, 34 percent of steam power plants (PLTU), and the rest from households, burning and others.
