Heat Up Electric Pickup Truck Competition, Isuzu Ready To Launch EV Pickup Truck In 2025 In Thailand
Following other Japanese manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, and Nissan who had tasted the electric vehicle segment first, Isuzu also had plans to present fully electric vehicles.
Isuzu Motors, known for its tough commercial and pickup vehicles, has big plans to release a fully electric truck pickup in Southeast Asia or to be precise in Thailand by 2025. This is a company's strategic step to deal with competition in the fast-growing electric vehicle market in the region.
Reporting from Nikkei Asia, Saturday, August 26, Isuzu Motors chose to focus on the Southeast Asian market which is the company's main market. They plan to maintain their highest market share here, especially with increasing demand for electric vehicles.
The electric truck pickup is said to have a basis for the well-known D-Max model, and is planned to be assembled in Thailand. The first launch will take place in Norway by 2025, where emission regulations are being tightened. After that, Isuzu plans to market this vehicle in Thailand, their biggest market.
Thailand is a key market for Isuzu, especially in the pickup segment, where they have a market share of more than 40%. The plan also involves Isuzu in adopting carbon-neutral technology by 2030 by releasing trucks and pickups for lightweight, moderate, and heavy work.
Isuzu is not the only player in this market. Toyota also plans to market electric pickup trucks in Thailand this year, so Isuzu will have to compete in maintaining their market share.
