Alan Fan, Head of Huawei's Intellectual Property Department, said the cross-licensing patent agreement demonstrates the commitment of both intellectual property parties to be properly respected and protected.
"As the main contributor to standard essential patents (SEPTs) for cellular communications, the company recognizes the intellectual property value of each, and this agreement creates a stronger patent environment," Fan said.
Over the past 20 years, Huawei has been a major contributor to mainstream ICT standards, including standards for cellular, Wi-Fi, and multimedia codecs.

Huawei is a SEPT holder and executor and seeks to take a balanced approach for licensing. Through the signing of this agreement, he provides and receives access to key technologies.
Fan added, "This agreement is the result of intensive discussions ensuring the interests of patent holders and executors are served fairly."
